Shopping Precincts in Rio de Janeiro | Where to shop | Travelshopa

The bustling city of Rio de Janeiro is teeming with rich culture and heritage. The vibrant capital city of Brazil is predominantly recognised for its year-round pleasant climate, pristine beaches, historical museums, rich sounds of Samba and a booming nightlife.

The local shopping scene in Rio is no different. Grab your best bikini and tour the streets – best by a motorbike – through these shopping precincts in Rio de Janeiro. Ipanema is filled with bursts of exclusive swimwear and streetwear labels for the style conscious, Leblon boasts the best upmarket local fashion labels, Lapa with nomadic markets carrying antiques, art, jewellery, souvenirs and hammocks and Jardim Botanico for a tranquil shopping experience offering homewares and furniture.

Ipanema

Touted as Rio’s most fashionable shopping precinct, Ipanema boasts fashion boutiques, with the bulk of them located along Rua Visconde de Pirajá. Shopping in Ipanema also promises a varied mix for the lush to laid-back shopper – body-hugging pieces for the ladies and casual but oh-so-sleek streetwear for gents. Key shopping areas in Ipanema also include Shopping Forum Ipanema and Ipanema Beach.

Jardim Botanico

While Ipanema and Leblon can skew a tad touristy, the tranquil and lush Jardim Botanico is a breath of fresh air. Take in the views – and some pictures – of the scenic Avenue of Royal Palms and the 8000 plant species in the 137-hectare garden. After which, begin your shopping escapade at the eclectic mix of home décor shops, vintage stores, locally owned fashion boutiques and multi-concept shops.

Lapa

Dotted with antique shops, Lapa – or specifically the areas around Rua do Lavradio and Rua do Senado – is a treasure trove of colonial furniture, Brazilian objet d’art, antiques, and rare finds. If you’re a gull for antiques and collectables, Lapa is the place to be. Mingle with the locals and scour through the streets for some of the best finds.

Leblon

If you have a little cash to splash or in need of some serious retail therapy, Leblon is just the answer. It’s not your usual boutique fare at Leblon, as smatterings of the most sensuous swimwear boutiques, sleek to edgy jewellery shops and handcrafted homeware stores are sprouted across this upscale precinct.
