Inspiration: Setouchi Retreat Aonagi, Matsuyama, Japan
There’s nothing like soaking in a tub after a good ole’ yoga sesh or meditating in the midst of our frenzied lives – in a tranquil setting. Sadly, not all of us have this luxury at the comfort of our home. But what if we did?
We are completely smitten over this gem we found in the land of the rising sun. The Setouchi Retreat Aonagi, Matsuyama, Japan is an architectural masterpiece by self-taught architect Tadao Ando. The 7 all-suite rooms check all requirements of Zen living. 8-meter tall floor to ceiling windows, a newly developed full flat bathtub in their hot spring suite – yes, a hot spring right in your room and a large outdoor pool tucked behind concrete walls. We’ve died and gone to Zen heaven.
We’re channelling the calming and refreshing premises by adding some lush yet minimal aesthetics to our home. Clean lines go hand in hand with Zen interior design. Keep your furniture simple. We’ve picked a series of exposed wood furniture and home décor in earthy tones like neutral, greys and crisp whites. Do remember to let lots of natural light in and add natural scents using essential oils or scented candles to enhance the room.
