Kaitie Manani on Hong Kong

You’ve envied her life on Instagram, wishing to be transported to any one of the haute destinations peppering her feed… Now get ready to be wowed as Kaitie Manani of swim and resort label Vamastyle introduces us to her inner Hong Kong.

Seemingly awake 24/7, Hong Kong pulses with activity no matter the time of day. The city is home to kungfu legends, world-famous dimsum, “cha chaan tengs” (Hong Kong cafes) and arguably the world’s best roast goose. And who can forget the shopping? Vintage markets, mega-malls and indie shops and boutiques are waiting to be discovered around every street corner.

Lest you find yourself at a loss over what to do while in Hong Kong, here is Kaitie’s guide to conquering her city…fashionably of course!

Hong Kong’s vibe…

Its all razzle dazzle here in HK. This city moves fast. I love it the most at night time… It’s quite spectacular. It’s the perfect fusion of east-meets-west all in a bite-sized version!

Favourite thing about Hong Kong…

You can get anything at any time here. From the most obscure to the most practical, Hong Kong always has a person who is all over it. I love the whole door-to-door service here, from someone coming in the sharpen your kitchen knifes to manicures in your living room. HK offers convenience like no other country I’ve ever lived in.

Least favourite thing about Hong Kong…

The pollution

Fun fact about the locals…

The locals have a crazy obsession with all things horse racing!!

Best time to visit…

April, May, Sept, October (it’s very humid over June, July and August but lovely still)

About Wan Chai…

It has changed so much since we first lived in Hong Kong. Wan Chai has a real local community now — amazing bars, cafes, and restaurants that we can walk to in 5-10 mins!

What to pack…

Flat shoes for day, light layers in case you get stuck indoors for too long and a going-out dress and a pair of heels for evening.

The Big Buddha – A hulking bronze Buddha located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island

The Peak – Always jaw-droppingly beautiful. One side it’s all high-rises and harbour views and the other side it’s all stunning green, lush mountains and water.

Lan Kwai Fong Hotel I always stay at the Lan Kwai Fong hotel on Kau U Fong St (off Aberdeen St) in SoHo. It’s tiny but you are right in the heart of super fun SoHo. Loads of great cafes, bars and shops are all within a 5-10 min walk

Mak Mak – Serves up cool Thai food at the Landmark

Zuma – Amazing contemporary Japanese also at the Landmark

Chachawan – Great drinks, atmosphere and street style Thai food on Hollywood Rd

Stanley, Hong Kong

Lane Crawford – For the drool-factor, Lane Crawford in IFC never disappoints! I love just walking around the store. It’s impeccably put together.

Stanley Market – Good for a little browse and there are plenty of great cafes around for a lunch stop.

Kapok on Sun Street – My favourite stopover for amazing unisex gifts.

Le Labo on Star Street – Custom made perfume

Central – I also love dropping by the lanes in Central for little knick-knacks you can never find anywhere else!

Dragon’s Back  – A walking trail that offers amazing views of the South side of the island.

Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware – Take part in the tea ceremony at this local institution located in Hong Kong Park.

You can’t leave HK without…
