For trend lovers
Just a stone’s throw away from Somerset MRT station, Cineleisure – or “Cine”, as the locals call it – features some of Singapore’s noteworthy local brands. Though the mall is renowned for its grandiose Cineplex (answers your question to the clusters of adolescents), levels 2 and 3 house an impressive range of indie and multi-label boutiques including popular menswear label Benjamin Barker, Rockstar by Soon Lee and Editor’s Market. A definite must-visit for all savvy shoppers who love to stay on trend.
For luxury fashion seekers
If you hold an acquired taste for luxurious, high-end fashion, you’ll feel right at home at Mandarin Gallery. Connected to the prestigious Meritus Mandarin Hotel, this mall features the likes of niche independent fashion boutiques and internationally acclaimed labels. Now though the lavish, all-glass storefront displays the latter, it is the array of indie fashion labels tucked away at levels 2 and 3 that piqued our interest. The mall also has ample rest areas should you need a breather.
For design enthusiasts
If soaring up twelve storeys – with outdoor escalators – don’t excite you then, nothing would. Orchard Central is Singapore’s first and tallest shopping complex and is home to some of the best indie boutiques around the globe. These stores offer up a slew of unique and contemporary designs ranging from women’s and men’s fashion, accessories and speciality gifts. The mall also boasts a selection of public art installations and pop-up stores every now and then, so be sure check them out. Forced to accompany your shopaholic friend? Head to the Roof Garden and take in the picturesque view of Singapore’s CBD.
The new kid on the block
A relatively new kid on the block, Orchard Gateway is located at a prime location, wedged between Orchard Central and 313@Somerset. The mall offers an interesting line-up of international high-street fashion brand names and an impressive number of multi-label boutiques as well as edgy indie fashion stores. If you’re little rushed for time, we suggest touring multi-label boutiques, The Emporium or Whole9yards for a one-stop shopping experience. A 2-storey library featuring over 100 000 titles is also available at the top levels.
For hidden vintage treasures
Sitting next to Shaw House and just off Orchard Road, Pacific Plaza may not be the first mall that pops into one’s mind when it comes to shopping in Singapore. Though rest assured, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what this mall has to offer. Pacific Plaza is famed for its hidden vintage treasures, second-hand designer outfits and niche designer boutiques. Nothing too showy but each unique on its own way. Venture further and you will come across personal and lifestyle products like styling and music as well.
Away from the hustle and bustle
Though many were disheartened by the closure of the crowd-pleasing Borders bookstore, its clever revamp has made Wheelock Place a fashion-centric spot for fashionistas. The improved mall has a lovely cluster of independent boutiques, niche fashion and speciality shops, spas and salons. Pop by the mall for a chilled out shopping experience, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Also worth snapping a couple of shots of its iconic conical glass roof design.
