5 reasons to attend Singapore Fashion Week | Travelshopa

Time to put your best face forward… Singapore Fashion Week 2015 is here! Singapore’s biggest fashion event will once more be held at the Tent@Orchard, Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza from May 13 to 17. Over the next few days, Orchard Road will buzz to the tune of slick runway beats and vibrant sidewalk chatter. Upping the ante with some of fashion’s biggest names (DVF almighty, Thakoon, and the always classy Victoria Beckham) and local emerging designers we love (Ong Shunmugam, Sabrina Goh, Dzojchen and more), SFW 2015 promises to be a show-stopping fashion party.

Just in case you’re tempted to give SFW a miss, or worse, think of it as something to brush off. We give you 5 reasons why Singapore Fashion Week 2015 is worth getting hyped up about.

1/ LOCALS REPRESENT: Fashion Futures 2015

What’s Singapore Fashion Week without some solid local designers to show for it? In its inaugural edition, Dzojchen, Sabrina Goh and Ong Shunmugam have been picked to present their collections as part of Fashion Futures 2015, a long-term incubation programme that readies Singapore’s most promising designers for the global fashion marketplace. The program will facilitate exchanges between the handpicked Singaporean designers and international industry leaders such as the CFDA. Exciting isn’t it? Who knows where we’ll be seeing them next?

2/ ICONIC INTERNATIONAL DESIGNERS

Grand Dame of fashion, Diane Von Furstenburg and Victoria Beckham will be headlining, need we say more? If you manage to snag tickets to these notoriously exclusive shows, well, lucky you. That won’t stop plenty of fashion cheerleaders from crowding the sidelines trying to get a glimpse of these style mavens. Critically lauded Australian designer, Dion Lee, and insider-favourite, Thakoon are also included in the starry lineup, making this edition of SFW one not to be missed.

3/ EXCITING NEW TALENT

To keep the fashion wheel spinning, there must be ripe avenues for new talent to be discovered and nurtured. Competitions such as Harper’s Bazaar Asia New Generation Fashion Designer and Audi Star Creation shine a spotlight on aspiring young fashion designers in Singapore and the region. If ever you needed proof that Singapore has talent, this is the space you should watch. Catch the winners of the Audi Star Creation 2014 debut their runway collections and cheer on these bright young sparks for keeping the fashion dream alive.

4/ FRONT ROW FURORE

With all the media hype surrounding the global fashion weeks, any fashion show worth its salt will have at least one A-list celebrity or fashion bigwig seated front row. All the better for us fans to ogle at, we say! Attendees of this year’s Singapore Fashion Week can expect to be awed by the starlit presence of Australian actress and Oscar golden girl, Cate Blanchett and Hallyu megastar, Yoon Eun Hye.

5/ INSPIRING STREET STYLE

Since the advent of fashion game changers like The Sartorialist, some say the real fashion parade will be out on the streets. Don’t believe us? Simply eye the crowd milling around the tents. All bets are on the nation’s fashionistas will be out with guns blazing. Street style stars in the making should already have this tattooed on their sleeves but we’ll just put it out there anyway. “People will stare. Make it worth their while.” – Harry Winston
