Now, before you get all excited, we have to warn you that this won’t be an exhaustive list of local designers on Orchard Road. Despite the dominating presence of international luxury designers and high street chains, there are countless local Singaporean labels and designers dotting the popular shopping strip, which of course, we’ve spoken about in length.
Orchard’s prestigious shopping malls – Mandarin Gallery, Cineleisure, Orchard Central, Orchard Gateway, Pacific Plaza and Wheelock Place, are individually bursting at the seams with local standalone stores and locally-oriented multi-label boutiques. In this guide, we zone in on noteworthy local designers that have managed to stand out even amongst the furious competition on Singapore’s premiere shopping street. Read on to find out who they are and which spots you should hit the next time you go shopping in Orchard!
Multi-label women’s fashion and accessories
The first thing you’ll notice as you step into Eclecticism is its eclectic range of vibrant colours. How apt. The boutique brings forth an array of established brands from New York, Los Angeles and London, together with some familiar labels. Apart from their popular jersey and silk dresses, Eclecticism also offers a mix of jewellery and accessories for a complete look. This one’s for all discerning women with an abundance of style and substance.
Edgy, street-style fashion
This omni-channel retailer has been a complete game changer in the fashion industry ever since its e-commerce store expanded to brick and mortar. Inverted Edge features a cluster of contemporary and indie fashion design labels, ranging from women’s to menswear and lifestyle products. The interior of the boutique reflects the edgy styles the boutique offers, with cement floors and a constant mix of black and white hues. Definitely a must-visit if you fancy some street style action.

Multi-label fashion and lifestyle products
As you take a step into this boutique, you’ll understand why it’s named The Emporium. As you’d expect from a multi-label store, The Emporium offers up a slew of fashion, furniture and home décor items, lifestyle products and gifts – definitely something in store for everyone. The Emporium has a well-honed eye for independent and homebred labels including gems from Stones that Rock, Singapore Trading Post, IndyK and Triologie. We dare you to leave this shop without buying something for yourself – or your living spaces.
Vintage-inspired fashion for women
If you desire vintage-inspired apparel that embraces femininity, you’ll feel right at home at Whole9yards. This womenswear label features a lineup of dresses; blouses, jackets and trousers with an aesthetic appeal defined by artful fabrics, handcrafted embellishments and shaped silhouettes. Classic or modern – this fashion label stands strong in bringing understated yet chic designs to your wardrobe.
Unique and quirky label
We simply can’t rave enough about local label hansel. Named after designer Jo Soh’s pet dog – two of them, in fact – hansel is a quirky brand full of whimsy and character. Featuring plenty of unique prints and retro colours in wearable forms, the local label could pass off as an international label, if not for their 10th anniversary collection in 2013, which drew inspiration from Jo’s childhood and home in HDB flats. Worn by international stars such as Katy Perry and The Veronicas, it’s little wonder why hansel is often regarded as one of the top local labels from our sunny island.
Pop-up store featuring handpicked designer items
If shopping for all your favourite indie Singaporean labels in an inspiring retail space seems like a distant dream, we’re telling you it’s not. Fashion, design and lifestyle pop-up – Keepers brings over 50 of Singapore’s best independent designers and artisans under one roof. The gallery-style displays showcase local creative talents across furniture and fashion to food, architecture and homewares with new names constantly being added to the mix. As it is now, shoppers can look forward to Dzojchen’s classic and contemporary apparel, Marilyn Tan Jewellery’s beautiful rocks, Matter’s gorgeous printed pants and plenty more you won’t bear to leave without.
Edgy local label
The brand may be called “Reckless Ericka”, and its flagship store at Orchard Central, “The Reckless Shop”, but there’s nothing reckless about the streamlined and classically tailored designs from the established Singaporean label. Though you could perhaps say that the brand is a bit of a risk-taker, freely experimenting with unconventional shapes and quirky details in its “Euro-centric” main collection for both men and women. Meanwhile garments crafted from the brand’s signature “Reckless Jersey” – a luxe lightweight jersey – show off Reckless Ericka’s youthful and carefree appeal.
Unconventional androgynous designs
Forget the days when only men wore the pants, and women had only dresses and skirts to play with. In today’s world, gender roles have become increasingly blurred, which makes Sabrina Goh’s androgynous designs apt for today’s society. And it isn’t just elements of masculinity and femininity that the local designer plays around with – she also mixes elements of symmetry and asymmetry, matte and shiny sufaces, colours, textures and fabrics to create unconventional designs that are distinctly Sabrina Goh.
Stunning monochromatic garments
At SECTS Shop, elements typical of male and female garments are melded harmoniously to create unique, androgynous designs. Their in-house label Depression is particularly recognisable for its penchant for monochrome that – far from being depressing – are often spruced up with horizontal and vertical stripes (often used simultaneously on a single piece of garment) and geometric shapes to create stunning designs that are uniquely Depression.
