Silly season is well upon us. BBQs, drinks, luncheons, dinners, cocktails, receptions, weddings and balls – you name it – rendezvous are happening. Dress codes are set, but is your wardrobe ready to play ball?

The first step to your successful appearance at a festive soirée is decoding the dress code. So we thought we’d remove some of the stress and do that bit for you…

LOUNGE SUIT

A suit, shirt and tie. Nowadays many men go without a tie and opt for a high collar shirt and a pocket square. You could also add a waistcoat for a complete three-piece suit look. Again a tie is optional. If in doubt, go with a jacket and tie, and dress down when you get there.

Perfect for: Dinners, cocktails, receptions and weddings

BLACK TIE OR FORMAL

Tuxedo suit, morning suit or dark coloured suit with a crisp white shirt and black tie or bowtie. Polished shoes are a must to complete this look.

Perfect for: Balls and weddings

A TOUCH OF X

Try to be yourself and just add a little bit of fun! This is not “fancy dress”. Go with the prescribed X, or at Christmas work in colours such as gold, silver, red or green.

Perfect for: Drinks, luncheons, dinners, cocktails, receptions, weddings and balls – always double check the invite!!
